In a significant move towards sustainable development, Gombe State has initiated a joint technical committee meeting with China-based JUNCAO Technology Development Center to promote sustainable livestock feeds,
The meeting, held under the L-PRES and ACReSAL Projects, aims to combat desertification, and create job opportunities for youths and women in the state.
According to Prof. U.B. Abubakar, Gombe L-PRES Project Coordinator, “The initiative is in line with the vision of the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya led administration to revamp the livestock sector for economic growth and development.”
The collaboration is expected to pave the way for further partnerships between the Gombe State Government and Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, which has the full endorsement of the United Nations.
The center is recognized for its expertise in producing nutritious forage, including Napier and Elephant grasses, and different varieties of mushrooms for human consumption, protein, and medicinal purposes.
The partnership will also provide opportunities for the Gombe L-PRES Project to establish fodder banks and grazing colonies along cattle routes, reducing farmers/herders conflicts in the state.
As noted by Prof. Abubakar, the initiative is a significant step towards tackling environmental challenges affecting livestock production and agriculture in the state.
