Ahead of the 2026 wet farming season, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has finalised plans for the distribution of 53,040 bags of fertiliser to residents of the 13 Local Government Areas that make up Kano North Senatorial District.
The fertiliser distribution exercise, which is expected to begin officially on Sunday, May 31, 2026, forms part of Senator Barau’s agricultural support programme aimed at increasing crop production and encouraging food sufficiency across the district.
Details of the initiative were contained in a statement released by the senator’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, who described the intervention as one of the lawmaker’s continuous efforts to assist rural communities and strengthen agricultural activities.
Apart from farmers, the programme will also benefit several groups and individuals, including APC stakeholders, local government officials, councillors, ward executives, traditional rulers, religious leaders, school administrators, security operatives, and selected social media influencers.
Speaking on the intervention, Senator Barau noted that providing farmers with fertiliser before the planting season would help improve harvest output and support ongoing efforts to address food challenges in the country.
He further stated that the programme aligns with the food security policies of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while encouraging beneficiaries to make effective use of the agricultural input for maximum productivity.
