The House of Representatives member representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, Abiola Peter Makinde has distributed 600 bags of fertilisers provided by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to farmers within his constituency.
The distribution, which took place across both Ondo East and Ondo West, saw 350 bags given to farmers in Ondo West, while 250 bags were received by farmers in Ondo East.
Beneficiaries included major farming groups such as the Cassava Farmers Association, Ondo West Chapter, Obalagbe Farmers Association, and the Farmers’ Congress of Ondo East/West.
However, members of the Ondo Ekimogun Youth Congress, who recently acquired 60 hectares of land for community farming, were part of the beneficiaries. Traditional rulers from remote areas were also entrusted with fertilisers to distribute to farmers unable to attend the event due to distance.
Speaking at the event, Makinde, who also chairs the House of Representatives Human Rights Committee, highlighted the importance of agriculture in his agenda, reiterating his commitment to the sector.
“Agriculture is central to my WEALTH agenda, which stands for Water, Education, Agriculture, Light, Training, and Wealth. It is the backbone of our economy, and by supporting our farmers, we not only secure food production but also promote economic growth. This will ultimately lead to prosperity for our nation, Nigeria,” he stated.
Makinde further assured farmers that this initiative was only the beginning, with more agricultural interventions planned in the coming months to drive self-sufficiency in the constituency.
Expressing their appreciation, one farmer remarked, “These fertilisers will greatly enhance our productivity and improve our livelihoods. We are thankful to Hon. Makinde for continuously bringing support to us.”
Another beneficiary expressed full confidence in both the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Makinde’s representation, adding, “He has always delivered on his promises.”
