by AgroNigeria

The Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya III, alongside officials of the Emirate Council, has inaugurated a tree-planting campaign in Jimi Town aimed at combating desertification, with a target of planting one million trees.

The initiative, flagged off in Jimi, received major support from the Green Legacy Foundation, led by the Magajin Garin Kano, which supplied a variety of seedlings for the project.

Speaking at the event, the Emir commended the foundation for its support, describing the campaign as a vital step toward protecting the emirate from the threat of desert encroachment.

He further instructed District Heads, Village Heads, and Ward leaders in the designated planting areas to ensure the seedlings are properly nurtured and closely monitored.

The Executive Chairperson of Ningi Local Government Council, Hon. Nasiru Zakarai, reiterated the Council’s commitment to safeguarding the environment by tackling illegal logging and charcoal production.

He highlighted that, through this initiative, Ningi has become the second local government area in Bauchi State to launch such an extensive tree-planting program.

In his remarks, the Chairperson of Warji Local Government Council, Hon. Aminu Barmini, encouraged Ningi LGA to involve volunteers in nurturing the seedlings by providing them with stipends. He also praised the Magajin Garin Kano for his dedication to environmental preservation.

Delivering a message on behalf of the Madakin Kano, Dr. Aminu Wada Fanda stated that the seedlings were supplied by the Green Legacy Foundation in partnership with the Gaya Emirate Council. He explained that the initiative was part of broader efforts to support both the Ningi Emirate and the Bauchi State Government in addressing desertification. He further noted that the foundation has undertaken similar interventions across 18 local government areas in Kano State.

Earlier, in his goodwill address, the District Head of Ari, Alhaji Muhammad Kilishi Musa, expressed gratitude to the Ningi Emirate and the Green Legacy Foundation for spearheading the campaign.
