WACOT Limited has deepened its support for rural communities in Osun State by releasing more than N158 million in Sustainability Differential Payments to cocoa growers who follow responsible farming practices.
The initiative, which also provided an additional N5.8 million to fifty-seven high performing farmers, was celebrated at an appreciation event in Ile Ife.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yosola Onanuga, who leads Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at TGI Group, praised the farmers for their resilience and dedication. She noted that their commitment to quality cocoa production has played a major role in the success of the programme and reaffirmed the company’s pledge to continue supporting them.
Farmers present at the event shared how WACOT’s involvement has changed their operations. One of them, Olaosun Rebecca, explained that the company’s guidance and access to essential inputs have brought a new level of productivity to her farm. She said that the training and supplies she received have led to healthier crops and more reliable harvests.
Another participant, Mr Chukwuma Agha, spoke about the long-term impact of the climate smart techniques he learned through the programme. According to him, the practical knowledge offered by WACOT has improved the condition of his plantation and boosted yields.
