Food Security key to Economic Development – FG

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris has identified food security as a priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a bid to strengthen the nation’s economy.

Speaking at a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to his office in Abuja, the minister stated that food security is a priority of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

According to Alhaji Idris, “One of the key priority areas for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is food security, which he declared an emergency from day one, because it is the only way to curb food importation and strengthen our economy”

The minister noted that Nigeria is currently on a path to enhance its ability to produce adequate food for its citizens.

He said that the country has arable land, human resources, and a large market, but is lacking technology and the necessary investment in the value chain and that the Republic of Belarus has technology and expertise in agriculture that Nigeria can tap from.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, His Excellency Vyacheslav Bril, on his part, said that the Republic of Belarus is a strong nation in agriculture responsible for almost 30% of global fertilizer production and is ready to continue its long and fruitful relationship with Nigeria.

“We can support Nigeria with farm inputs, food processing plants, storage facilities, and different kinds of equipment,” he added.
