FCT to Prioritise Security, Agriculture – Wike

The Minister, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has outlined his administration’s priorities, with a strong emphasis on security, agriculture, and job creation in the territory.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the British High Commission led by Richard Montgomery, Wike expressed his commitment to advancing these key areas to enhance bilateral relations and foster development in the FCT.

The Minister underscored the importance of job creation, particularly in the agricultural sector, as a means to address unemployment among the youth population in the FCT.

He highlighted the availability of arable lands and expressed readiness to collaborate with agricultural investors to provide employment opportunities and ensure food security.

In addition to job creation, Mr. Wike welcomed investments and partnerships in the tourism sector to position the FCT as a premier tourist destination, further contributing to economic growth and youth empowerment.

Addressing security challenges in the territory, the minister credited the significant improvements to the support and commitment of security agencies. While acknowledging challenges posed by criminal activities in neighboring states, he expressed confidence in the efforts of security agencies to curb such threats and enhance investors’ confidence in the FCT.

Expressing gratitude for the British High Commission’s technical support in establishing the Abuja Technology Park, Mr. Wike highlighted the strengthening relationship between Nigeria and the UK.

In response, Richard Montgomery echoed the importance of agricultural development and job creation, affirming ongoing programs to enhance value chains for farmers. He commended Nigeria’s economic reforms and expressed optimism about the positive impact they would have on long-term prosperity and growth.
