FrieslandCampina’s Value4Dairy consortium, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has initiated three dairy zone projects aimed at enhancing local dairy production in Nigeria.

The project, led by FrieslandCampina, seeks to bolster small-scale milk production and promote sustainability across dairy zones in Oyo, Osun, and Abuja.

Roger Adou, Managing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, expressed pride in embarking on this transformative journey to expand dairy development footprints in Nigeria.

Adou emphasized the consortium’s commitment to driving economic prosperity and empowering communities nationwide through collaborative efforts and innovative strategies.

He said, “The project’s impact extends beyond dairy production, encompassing broader societal benefits such as improved food security, enhanced nutrition, and mitigated conflicts between herders and farmers.

“These self-sustaining dairy zones will serve as hubs for milk aggregation while providing essential resources and training to enhance productivity sustainably.

“The consortium plans to leverage cutting-edge advancements in feed, breeding, and sustainable farming practices to uplift local farmers and drive economic prosperity across the sector.

“Initially targeting 10,000 pastoralists and smallholders, the project aims for expansion to include 40,000 milk producers in subsequent years.”

Launched in April 2021, the Value4Dairy Consortium collaborates with four strategic partners specializing in various agri-related value chains: FrieslandCampina WAMCO, URUS, Barenbrug, and Agrifirm.
