In a significant move to enhance agricultural and healthcare infrastructure, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has announced the upgrade of the College of Agriculture and Animal Science Bakura to the College of Agriculture and Technology.

This upgrade is aimed at introducing technology disciplines, transitioning the institution from a monotechnic to a polytechnic. Governor Lawal made this announcement during the commissioning of the upgraded facilities at the college.

The announcement was made public by Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governor’s spokesperson. The event saw the presence of former Governor of the state, Senator Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura, who joined Governor Lawal in commissioning the new facilities. This ceremony was part of the activities commemorating the first anniversary of Lawal’s administration.

Governor Lawal also highlighted his administration’s focus on education and agriculture, stating the importance of renovating the college and equipping it with modern facilities for quality agricultural education.

However, the renovated facilities at the College include the administration block, agriculture laboratory, biology laboratory, science laboratory, lecture hall, and both male and female hostels. Additionally, new VIP toilets, a laundry facility, and an upgraded water system have been added.

The Governor’s commitment to improving healthcare was evident during his visit to Talata Mafara, where he ordered the immediate renovation and upgrade of the General Hospital.

Governor Lawal expressed his dismay at the hospital’s poor condition, emphasizing the need for urgent improvements. He assured that the hospital would be upgraded to serve as a central healthcare facility for the western Senatorial district.

In Maradun Local Government Area, Governor Lawal conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing renovation work at the General Hospital. The project includes the renovation of the administration block, male and female wards, staff quarters, mortuary, main theatre block, and two toilets. Additionally, the project involves constructing a perimeter fence, rehabilitating the hospital’s water system, developing walkways, and equipping and furnishing the facility.

These initiatives underscore the Lawal administration’s dedication to improving the quality of life for Zamfara State’s citizens through substantial investments in education and healthcare infrastructure.
