Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has pledged increased protection for farmers in Zamfara State to enable them to continue their agricultural activities without fear of banditry.

During a visit to the state, Musa assured the Zamfara government and its citizens that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would take decisive measures to ensure farmers can safely cultivate their land. This, he noted, would help address insecurity in the region and restore peace to affected communities.

While meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal at the Government House in Gusau, Musa expressed gratitude for the governor’s support to the Armed Forces and other security agencies operating in the state.

He commended the noticeable development in Zamfara over the past year, despite ongoing security challenges, and reiterated the military’s commitment to restoring peace to the state.

Musa also stressed the need to protect farmers from bandit attacks, pledging that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would provide the necessary security to ensure a successful farming season. He acknowledged the current hardships faced by Zamfara citizens and assured them of the military’s commitment to easing their burden.

The Defence Chief appealed to the people of Zamfara to cooperate with security agencies by refraining from aiding bandits and providing vital information to support ongoing military operations. He announced a change in military operations, renaming it Operation FANSAN YAMMA and upgrading it to a Theater Command to improve coordination between security actors.

Musa also reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with state-owned security establishments and stressed the importance of community involvement in achieving lasting peace.

He further praised troops from the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army who had recently ambushed and neutralized scores of terrorists. He acknowledged their bravery and assured them of the military’s commitment to providing all necessary tools and support for the continued fight against terrorism.

In response, the Zamfara State Governor thanked the CDS for his dedication and expressed optimism that the new military measures would bring peace to the state. He remarked that General Musa’s visit had already lifted the spirits of Zamfara’s citizens, who now feel encouraged about an end to the insecurity.
