Agro Rangers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) successfully blocked an assault by alleged bandits on the Federal Government’s grain silo in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to the NSCDC spokesman Buhari Hamisu, the incident took place on Saturday night. He said that the bandits tried to sabotage the silo and kidnap its Manager, Mr. Lawal Shitu-Yar’adua.
In response, the Agro Rangers swiftly engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle lasting more than two hours.
“The valiant operatives overpowered the criminals, who scaled the rear fence of the reserve and escaped with serious injuries,” he said.
“The silo was not damaged, nor did the criminals succeed in their nefarious act.”
Hamisu stated that the NSCDC has increased its presence in the area by deploying additional personnel and enhancing the firepower of its operatives to forestall any potential repeat of such attacks.
He further explained that the silo serves as a storage facility for grains allocated to the residents of Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states.
According to him, “The Command remains dedicated towards promoting safety and security for the good people of the state and Nigeria as a whole, as well as providing adequate protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.”
