Delta Govt Okays Disbursement of N2bn Special Agricultural Intervention Fund to Farmers

The government of Delta State is set to allocate a 2 billion naira Special Agricultural Intervention Fund to farmers within the state.

Sheriff Oborevwori, the state governor made this known on Wednesday while examining the Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS) at Mbiri Farm Settlement, Ika North-East LGA , and the Agro-Industrial Park in Aboh-Ogwashi, located at Aniocha South LGA.

The Mbiri Farm Settlement houses thirty greenhouses for the cultivation of tomatoes and other vegetables, while the Agro-Industrial Park in Aboh-Ogwashi is  for rice milling and processing of grains.

Speaking further, he stated that his administration is committed to enhancing the agricultural value chain, thereby improving food security and providing jobs for individuals within the state.

In his words, “If you go through my MORE Agenda, I said that there are going to be sustainable agriculture sector reforms. I also said that the agricultural value chain would be sustained. And seeing what the immediate past administration has done here, it gladdens my heart. 

“The agriculture commissioner has informed me that we have this kind of farm settlement in the three senatorial districts. We are going to support them because we have a N2 billion Special Agricultural Intervention Fund, and we will disburse that money within this month.”

Oborevwori promised to construct roads and other necessary infrastructure for the Agro-Industrial Park, Aboh-Ogwashi, people with the aim of improving food security and providing employment for residents. 

He further stressed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Delta State residents, stating that he will cooperate with the project consultant to ensure that the project is completed as soon as possible.
