Former Senate Leader and current representative of Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has called on youths and residents of his constituency to embrace agriculture and entrepreneurial ventures as a way to counter the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
During his end-of-the-year visit to the nine local government areas and five emirate councils in the southern Borno senatorial district, Senator Ndume addressed gatherings in Gwoza and Askira–Uba local government areas.
Speaking at the Emir’s palace in Gwoza, the lawmaker underscored the inadequacy of the new minimum wage, asserting that large-scale farming is the most reliable strategy for escaping hunger in the land.
In his remarks to the youth in Gwoza, Senator Ndume urged them to take proactive steps in identifying and exposing collaborators of Boko Haram within their communities.
He stressed that such informants have enabled the insurgents to execute attacks in Gwoza and other parts of southern Borno, compromising the safety and progress of the region.
The lawmaker encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing intelligence that could aid in neutralizing these threats.
Senator Ndume commended Governor Babagana Zulum’s efforts in resettling 11 communities in Gwoza that had been displaced by the insurgents.
He highlighted the governor’s plans to restore communities such as Ashigarsya, Hambagda, Wala, and Yamtake, emphasizing the significance of these initiatives in rebuilding lives and fostering development in the local government area.
While addressing the gathering at the Emir’s palace in Uba, Senator Ndume emphasized the importance of education for youths, describing it as a valuable asset for personal growth and economic stability.
He encouraged the pursuit of certificates and vocational skills to complement farming and other income-generating activities.
According to him, education remains a foundation upon which residents can build diverse livelihoods.
In his response, the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Manza, urged residents to heed Senator Ndume’s advice.
The traditional ruler highlighted the benefits of farming and self-reliance in overcoming economic challenges, calling on his people to prioritize agricultural ventures for sustainable living.
