FCTA Distributes 1,000 Bags of Rice to Vulnerable Women

The Women Affairs Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has distributed 1,000 bags (25 kilograms each) of rice to vulnerable women groups in the territory.

This initiative aims to address hunger and is part of the Federal Government’s Food Security Programme.

During the distribution event in Abuja on Saturday, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the Mandate Secretary of the secretariat, emphasised that this effort was to provide immediate relief and reinforce the FCTA’s commitment to the welfare of FCT residents.

Represented by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Adetoyi Kolawole, Benjamins-Laniyi highlighted that the distribution was organised through various women groups to ensure an efficient process.

The initiative prioritises widows and women with disabilities, reflecting the administration’s inclusive approach to governance.

Benjamins-Laniyi stressed the importance of supporting women as the foundation of families and society, a priority of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. She noted,

“The success of this exercise underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies and community groups.”

Mrs. Grace Adayilo, Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, FCTA, urged the women groups to ensure the grains reached the intended beneficiaries.

She assured that the Federal Government and FCTA would continue to initiate interventions to ensure no family in the FCT goes hungry.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Aisha Umar from Gwagwalada, expressed gratitude, saying the support has brought relief to her family.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Janet Okafor from Bwari, noted that the food items came at a crucial time when families were struggling to feed. She thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Women Affairs Secretariat, and all involved in this noble gesture.

The FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat aims to set an example of compassion and service, resonating with the ethos of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The administration remains dedicated to improving the lives of its most vulnerable citizens.
