Senior Pastor of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Pastor (Dr.) Wole Oladiyun, has recently proposed a strategy to address food insecurity in Nigeria by implementing an agricultural model at the local government level.
During a recent sermon, Pastor Oladiyun acknowledged the complexity of the nation’s challenges but encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic, noting that improvements are on the way. He reassured his congregation that God is working to fix Nigeria, while emphasizing that repairing a flawed system takes time.
In his proposal, Pastor Oladiyun suggested reviving food security through the local government structure. He recommended that the federal government partner with the Africa Development Bank (AFDB) to initiate large-scale food production projects in Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
According to him, this initiative would involve allocating sizeable lands to each local government for agriculture, ensuring sufficient space for farming activities nationwide. The cleric emphasized the need for AFDB’s funding and support, including the provision of machinery and comprehensive training programs for young people.
Pastor Oladiyun also proposed that the federal government establish a special community security force in each local government area to secure and guarantee the success of these projects. Additionally, he called for the legislative arm to pass the necessary laws to facilitate the implementation of this initiative.
He further suggested involving renowned agricultural institutions such as the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to ensure expertise and efficiency.
Pastor Oladiyun expressed confidence that Nigeria can achieve food security through this proposed model, stressing the need for the federal government to prioritize and commit to the project. He assured Nigerians that food security would evolve gradually and encouraged citizens to be hopeful and patient.
