The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has announced plans to establish a Help-line Centre to address public concerns about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Nigeria.
This move aims to promote transparency and provide accurate information on the science and safety of GMOs.
According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, public concerns about GMOs are often rooted in misconceptions and misinformation.
The government, he added, recognizes the need to address misconceptions about GMOs, particularly in light of the country’s growing population, climate change, and global geopolitical tensions that put pressure on the global food supply chain.
He noted that the Help-line Centre will provide clear and accurate information about GMOs, their benefits, and the regulatory processes in place to safeguard public health.
