The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed 90 power tillers to 24 farming cooperatives in Benue State, slashing manual labor and amplifying food production in Nigeria’s “Food Basket.”

The handover occurred in Makurdi on Thursday, promoting shared mechanization to expand cultivation and spur rural economic growth.

Representing Managing Director Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, Director of Engineering and Technical Services Daniel Ipilakyaa underscored the Commission’s shift beyond infrastructure to modern farming tools, essential for sustaining Benue’s agricultural legacy.

State Coordinator Lee Ahenjir stressed communal use to avoid misuse, maximizing collective benefits.

The Benue State Government embraced the initiative as a vital agricultural lifeline, pledging ongoing collaboration.

Community leaders like Chief Godwin Onah of Agatu lauded N-HYPPADEC’s rural focus, while farmer Terna Tersoo celebrated the relief from grueling manual work and expected yield gains.
