Namadi Warns Jigawa Farmers Against Sale, Diversion Of Subsidised Agricultural Inputs

by AgroNigeria

The Jigawa State Government has issued a stern warning against the sale or diversion of agricultural inputs allocated for the 2025 dry season rice farming programme, vowing to take decisive action against anyone found guilty.

Governor Umar Namadi sounded the warning on Saturday during the official launch of the dry season rice farming programme at Jura village in Auyo Local Government Area.

According to the governor, over 58,500 farmers across 27 local government areas will benefit from subsidised inputs under the scheme, which includes improved seed varieties, fertilizers, irrigation support, and modern farming techniques for cultivating more than 130,000 hectares.

He said the initiative reflects the administration’s deep commitment to food security and agricultural transformation, with an ambitious annual target of 3.6 million metric tonnes of rice production.

“With diligent farmers, committed stakeholders, and supportive partners, I am confident this goal can be achieved,” Namadi declared.

He stressed that the current effort goes beyond boosting yields. Through the Rice Value Chain Development project, the state government plans to implement full mechanisation, establish processing hubs, and enhance access to both local and international markets.

“Our aim is a complete transformation. We are positioning Jigawa as Nigeria’s leading rice producer and a thriving hub for agribusiness and rural prosperity,” he said.

Namadi urged farmers to make the most of the opportunity and continue supporting government initiatives aimed at diversifying the state’s economy.

“You have my assurance that this administration will sustain all necessary support and policies for your success. But be warned, anyone found selling or diverting the inputs meant for this programme will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
