The Ekiti State Police Command has brought two individuals, Azeez Mustapha (67) and Najee Adedayo (51), before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the defendants allegedly stole four stumps of economic trees worth ₦13,570,000, belonging to Chief Jemiseye T. Thaddus, on February 16 at approximately 10 a.m. in Ire-Ekiti.

Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi further stated that on February 16, at around 10 a.m. in Ire-Ekiti, the defendants also intentionally damaged a cassava plantation worth ₦215,000, belonging to Chief Jemiseye T. Thaddus.

The prosecutor stated that the charges against the defendants fall under Sections 421, 302(1)(a), and 354(1) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law of 2021, which prescribe penalties for such offenses.

The defendants’ legal representative, Barrister Adunni Olanipekun, requested bail for her clients, which Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted at ₦200,000 each, requiring one surety per defendant. The case was then adjourned until April 24 for hearing.
