The Yobe State Government has distributed livestock feed and equipment to pastoralists under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
The State Coordinator of the project, Adama Madaki, while speaking with newsmen recently, said the intervention addresses the major challenges of pastoralists including; lack of portable water and shortage of pasture.
She explained that the government has provided 70 solar-powered boreholes with watering points and distributed over 700 crop residue crushers and choppers to pastoralist groups across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Madaki noted that the equipment will reduce wastage of crop residues, ensuring processed feed is available all year round to boost livestock productivity.
While expressing gratitude to the Governor and the L-PRES team, beneficiaries pledged to make good use of the support.
With Yobe hosting one of the largest livestock markets in West Africa, the initiative is expected to create jobs and boost the state’s economy.
