Ogun State is set to host one of Nigeria’s largest dairy production facilities following a $250 million investment commitment by Pure Dairy Herds, a specialised cattle breeding and milk production company.
The project, which will be located in Ogun West Senatorial District, is expected to strengthen local milk production, reduce reliance on imported dairy products and create new economic opportunities within the state.
The company’s representative, Mr. Farouk Gumel, disclosed the development after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, stating that the investment forms part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s dairy industry and build a more sustainable agricultural value chain.
According to him, the company is working with international technical partners to develop a world-class dairy farm designed to significantly increase domestic milk output and support the country’s drive towards greater self-sufficiency in dairy production.
Gumel revealed that land acquisition for the project has been completed, paving the way for construction and other development activities to commence.
He noted that Ogun State’s business-friendly environment, improving infrastructure and consistent support for investors played a major role in attracting the investment.
The company also praised the cooperation of host communities in Ogun West, describing the area as well-suited for large-scale dairy operations and future expansion.
Gumel added that preparations are at an advanced stage for the project’s groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to be held within the coming weeks.
The dairy facility is projected to generate jobs, stimulate economic activities across the host communities and contribute to efforts aimed at increasing local milk production in Nigeria.
The latest investment further reinforces Ogun State’s growing profile as a major destination for agribusiness and industrial investments, driven by ongoing infrastructure development and policies designed to attract private sector participation in key sectors of the economy.
