To boost food production and enhance the agricultural sector, the Federal Government through the National Agricultural Lands Development Authority (NALDA) has set an ambitious goal to expand land cultivation by an additional ten million hectares across states in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of NALDA, Mr. Cornelius Adebayo, said as part of the overarching objective, NALDA is committed to clearing 5.5 million hectares over the next five years, co-developing the land with various partners across the private and public sectors.

Speaking at the strategy co- creation workshop for stakeholders in Abuja, Adebayo said the initiative will support the development of a self-sufficient and resilient agricultural sector in Nigeria by 2034, promoting food security, reducing dependency on food imports, and creating numerous job opportunities and agribusinesses.

“It aligns with the government’s vision for sustainable development and economic growth through agriculture.

“As a key player in advancing the Federal Government’s vision for national food security, economic growth, and empowerment, NALDA is committed to delivering on its mandate.

“A strategic roadmap has been set to unlock the full potential of agricultural land development, ensuring a thriving and food-secure Nigeria, “ he added

Meanwhile, the NALDA Stakeholders’ Forum brought together key stakeholders from across the country to discuss the theme “Alliances for Sustainable Agricultural Land Development and Food Security.” The event highlighted the vital role of land development in ensuring food security, driving economic prosperity, and promoting environmental sustainability in agriculture.
