Gov Ododo Distributes Food Items to Widows in Kogi

by AgroNigeria

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Wednesday distributed food items and essential support to widows across the state, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable members of society.

Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo underscored the emotional weight of the initiative, pledging to prioritize the welfare of widows without politicizing their plight.

“Today is a day of deep emotions for me because I am not standing here before you only as the chief servant, I am standing before you as a man who knows what it means to lack and as a man who has seen hardship, lived it and carried it in heart,” he said.

He continued: “Today, I speak to you not as the chief servant of the people but as your brother, your friend and your ally. We are not to console you with words alone, we are here to wipe tears and replace them with opportunities. Let me say it clearly, don’t pity the widows, empower them.”

While distributing food, clothing, and financial support, the Governor emphasized that the gesture marks the beginning of a broader social support system aimed at long-term empowerment.

“Yes, today, we share food, clothes and financial support, but beyond this, we are laying the foundation for something greater — the support system that includes skills training, access to healthcare, small business funding, and education for your children,” he added.

Governor Ododo also extended his gratitude to his wife, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo, for her unwavering dedication to the cause of widows in the state, describing her role as sacred.

He further appreciated the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, for her commitment to the welfare of Kogi women.

He ended his speech with a declaration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In her remarks, the Kogi State Widows Coordinator, Mrs. Ojone Ojoata, lauded the Governor and the First Lady as “amazing people” and offered prayers for their continued protection and guidance.
