The pan-Yoruba organization, Afenifere, has called on the federal government to intensify efforts in improving key sectors such as security, agriculture, education, and the economy.
This statement was made by the leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, and delivered by National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, in a message congratulating Nigerians on the 64th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
Afenifere commended Nigerians for their resilience, expressing hope that the country’s situation would improve soon.
“The federal government, under President Bola Tinubu, must enhance its work in security, agriculture, education, and the economy,” the message read.
“Efforts must also be directed at improving existing infrastructure while creating more.”
Despite the nation’s challenges, Afenifere noted the importance of acknowledging progress made since independence. They highlighted Nigeria’s continued unity despite the civil war and other crises over the past 64 years, emphasizing that many countries that gained independence at the same time have since disintegrated.
The organization also praised the continuity of democracy since 1999, the longest period of uninterrupted civil rule in Nigeria’s history, urging that this democratic stability be sustained.
