NDDC Launches Tree Planting Campaign in 9 States

by AgroNigeria

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched a tree-planting campaign spanning all nine states of the Niger Delta region—Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Rivers.

The campaign was officially flagged off by the Commission’s Director of Environment Protection and Control, Mr. Onouha Obeka, during a multi-stakeholder meeting held in Port Harcourt.

According to Obeka, the initiative is designed to promote environmental sustainability, support community development, and address the region’s persistent issues of environmental degradation and pollution.

He stated that the tree-planting drive will help restore biodiversity, lower greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change, and enhance public health throughout the region.

“This project targets major causes of environmental damage, such as deforestation and harmful industrial practices, by promoting eco-friendly alternatives,” Obeka said.

He also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in building a more sustainable future for the Niger Delta, assuring that the Commission is fully committed to executing the project in both urban and rural areas across the participating states.
