Sanwo-Olu Calls for Innovation Along Agribusiness Value Chain

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has emphasized the need for innovative practices to minimize waste along the agribusiness value-chain in Lagos. 

Speaking at the Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 1.0, Sanwo-Olu stated, “We need to find innovative ways to reduce food waste, increase efficiency, and ensure that our food systems are resilient in the face of climate change and global challenges”. 

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, highlighted the importance of building a sustainable agribusiness ecosystem for future generations. 

He emphasized that Lagos should not only sustain itself but also lead Nigeria and Africa towards food security and agricultural excellence. 

Sanwo-Olu noted, “As a government, we understand that agriculture development depends on more than just traditional practices. It requires us to embrace technology, foster collaboration, and create sustainable practices that will endure”.

The summit, themed ‘Shaping Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems for the Next Generation,’ represents the state’s ongoing commitment to developing an agricultural sector that serves as the backbone of Lagos’ economy. 

Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of placing young people at the center of innovation in the agric value-chain, saying, “It is their energy, ideas, and ambition that will drive this transformation forward”. 

To support Agrinnovators, the state government awarded N100 million grants to 25 finalists of The Lagos Agrithon program.
