Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, on his 65th birthday.
In a letter obtained by AgroNigeria, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Dr. Adesina’s extraordinary life and his impact, which resonates far beyond Africa’s borders and globally.
He noted that Dr. Adesina, a renowned economist and development expert, has been a driving force in Africa’s agricultural and economic development.
As Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, he initiated bold reforms that revolutionized the sector, empowering over 15 million farmers.
These reforms were instrumental in breaking the cycle of inefficiency that had plagued the industry for decades. Under his leadership, Nigeria saw significant improvements in agricultural productivity and food security, marking him as one of the country’s most respected reformers.
At the African Development Bank, Dr. Adesina’s leadership has been equally transformative. He secured the largest capital increase in the bank’s history, a major milestone that has positioned the institution to better serve Africa’s development needs.
During the global COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Adesina’s decisive actions helped mobilize resources to support African nations, ensuring that the continent could respond effectively to the crisis.
Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Dr. Adesina’s innovative initiatives in areas such as development finance, agriculture, and infrastructure. These initiatives have provided a solid foundation for Africa’s future growth, ensuring the continent remains on a path toward progress and prosperity.
“Your leadership has consistently demonstrated that Africa is not only a continent of challenges but a land of boundless opportunities,” Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked.
He praised Dr. Adesina’s commitment to the resurgence of Africa, describing him as a true champion of the continent’s potential.
“As a fellow advocate for Africa’s resurgence, I salute your life’s work and your relentless pursuit of excellence.
“On this special day, I, as well as the government and good people of Lagos State, wish you good health, renewed strength, and the enduring wisdom to continue leading Africa toward its rightful place on the global stage,” he added.
