The World Bank has unveiled plans to establish a livestock service centre in Ekiti State, aiming to boost productivity and commercialize Nigeria’s livestock value chain.
National Project Coordinator for the World Bank’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, Abubakar Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
Sanusi, who was on an assessment tour of the state, expressed satisfaction with Ekiti State’s readiness for the Livestock Service Centre, commending Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to the sector and the State L-PRES team’s dedication and professionalism.
According to him, once operational, the livestock centre will support farmers by enhancing the health, productivity, and profitability of their animals.
Sanusi further explained that the livestock center will be equipped with a range of essential facilities, including diagnostic services, a fully operational veterinary clinic, and advanced processing units. In addition to these, the center will also house a diagnostic centre.
He emphasized that these resources are designed to promote and support sustainable, modern livestock production practices, ensuring that farmers have access to the latest tools and technologies to boost their operations and improve overall productivity.
“Under this project, there is provision for five livestock centers, and we want to assess and see if Ekiti state will be one of the states that will have that service. Twelve states are vying for five positions,” he said.
