Chairman of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Alhaji Lawal Ismail-Yakawada, has declared Kebbi State as Nigeria’s new food basket, citing its vast agricultural potential and growing contribution to national food production.
Yakawada made this known during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Commission to the Kebbi State Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
He noted that while Benue State had long held the title, Kebbi has now emerged as a leading force in the country’s food supply chain.
“Kebbi has become the food basket of the nation due to its immense agricultural resources,” Yakawada stated, reaffirming NWDC’s commitment to supporting the state in unlocking further opportunities for agricultural development.
He emphasized the importance of partnership between the Commission and the Kebbi State Government, stressing that collaboration is key to strengthening food security in the region.
“We are proud to partner with you to unlock more opportunities in this sector,” he said.
In his remarks, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the NWDC, describing it as a timely intervention for driving regional development and agricultural transformation.
