FIRS Partners Firm to Train Youths on Livestock Farming

by AgroNigeria

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), in collaboration with JustSnails Africa, has launched a livestock farming training initiative for youths in Ekiti, Oyo, and Ondo states.

The program aims to tackle hunger, promote food security, and boost economic development in Nigeria.

Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day training session held in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zaccheus Adedeji, highlighted the initiative’s focus on youth empowerment for financial independence.

Represented by Mrs. Benedicta Akpana, Dr. Adedeji emphasized that the program seeks to expand Nigeria’s tax base while positioning the country as an exporter of poultry and livestock products to regions including the European Union, the Middle East, and Africa.

“This initiative is about giving back to society. The FIRS, under my leadership, is not just about tax collection; we are empowering youths to become entrepreneurs, reduce unemployment, and contribute to economic growth,” Dr. Adedeji stated.

He noted that the training covers poultry farming, fish breeding, and other livestock practices, equipping participants to become self-reliant. He added that beneficiaries would also play a role in creating jobs, reducing insecurity, and growing Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The project, targeting 60 youths across the Southwest, has been implemented in Oyo and Ekiti states, with plans to extend to Ondo State. Participants receive starter funds to launch their ventures, fostering sustainability and productivity in the agricultural sector.

The Chief Executive Officer of JustSnails Africa, Femi Oludare Rowland, explained that the training aims to combat hunger and poverty while promoting food and job security.

He underscored the importance of agriculture and livestock farming as sustainable career paths for youths.

“We aim to equip youths with practical skills in agriculture and fish breeding. Through partnerships with FIRS and local farms, we provide resources and incubation centers to help participants launch their businesses and empower others,” Rowland stated.

Rowland urged participants to seize the opportunity, emphasizing the transformative potential of agriculture in addressing unemployment and poverty in Nigeria.
