Governor Muhammad Umar Bago of Niger State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through advanced technology and expert-driven strategies.
He underscored that improving food production remains a key priority as he works to position the state as a leading agricultural hub.
Bago made the remarks during the launch of two books written in his honor—Niger State Under a Great Democrat and The Local Government Council in Nigeria—held in Abuja.
Represented by Professor Mohammed Yahaya Kuta, the governor emphasized the role of agriculture and security in driving economic growth, stating that he is dedicated to fulfilling the social contract he signed with the people of Niger State.
“I remain focused on fulfilling the pact I made with the people, particularly in agriculture and security, with the support of our citizens,” Bago said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of his cabinet and various stakeholders, asserting that the achievements highlighted in the books were the result of collective efforts.
The books’ author, Ibrahim Halil Sayuti, also the Chairman of Agaie Local Government Area, revealed that the works were inspired by the governor’s visionary leadership and transformative policies.
Sayuti stressed the importance of documenting history in governance, warning that a nation that fails to do so risks repeating its past mistakes.
“These books are a reflection of the struggles, dreams, and aspirations of the people, and they serve as a testament to the collective action that drives progress.”
He praised Bago for his leadership, noting that his initiatives in infrastructure, economic development, and social cohesion were integral to the state’s transformation.
Sayuti particularly highlighted Bago’s work in fostering unity across Niger State’s diverse ethnic, political, and religious groups, pointing out that his leadership had made the state more inclusive and focused on collective advancement.
He also commended the governor’s attention to workers’ welfare, describing it as a hallmark of leadership that puts the people first.
In Niger State Under a Great Democrat, Sayuti details Bago’s key initiatives, such as the establishment of NigerFoods to enhance food production and the state’s infrastructure development. He also emphasizes the governor’s efforts to bridge ethnic and religious divides.
“Governor Bago’s actions speak louder than words. He has shown that democracy is not just about casting votes but about delivering tangible results,” Sayuti said.
He went on to compare Bago to global leaders like Nelson Mandela and Thomas Sankara, noting that the governor’s legacy will be remembered for years to come.
Sayuti’s second book, The Local Government Council in Nigeria, examines the crucial role of grassroots governance in national development, stressing that local government is where governance is most directly felt by the people.
“If we aim to build a stronger nation, we must begin at the grassroots level,” Sayuti emphasized.
