NASENI to Launch ‘Irrigate Nigeria’ Project

by AgroNigeria

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to launch its “Irrigate Nigeria” project, an initiative aimed at revolutionizing the country’s agricultural sector.

NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr. Khalil S. Halilu, who disclosed this, highlighted the project’s potential to enhance food security by enabling farmers to achieve three farming cycles annually.

“This initiative will enable farmers to have three harvests in a year, compared to the traditional single-season harvest,” Mr. Halilu stated.

The “Irrigate Nigeria” project will equip farmers with modern irrigation techniques and equipment to facilitate year-round farming and address the nation’s food scarcity challenges.

Halilu revealed that NASENI has already successfully tested this concept at its Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (AMEDI) greenhouse in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Building on this success, the Agency will expand the initiative nationwide to ensure widespread adoption among farmers.

He further noted that NASENI is working with Indonesia to establish a coal fertilizer factory, with plans for its upcoming launch.

Additionally, the agency is teaming up with the Czech Republic to produce affordable mini tractors, aimed at providing small-scale farmers with access to machinery they otherwise could not afford.
