The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Chief Ebitimi Amgbare, has said that collaborations are crucial to unlocking the agricultural potential of the Niger Delta region.
He stated that the Niger Delta has the capacity to sufficiently feed Nigeria through agriculture.
Amgbare expressed this view in a statement issued on Friday in Yenagoa by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Isaac Ombe.
He made these remarks at the recent Niger Delta International Festival and Expo/Economic Summit in Abuja.
Amgbare reiterated that the Niger Delta region has the ability to adequately feed Nigeria through food production.
He explained that the NDBDA is committed to increasing food production by using the region’s rich biodiversity and water resources.
The NDBDA chief noted that there is no need for Nigeria to import fish if the abundant potential in the Niger Delta is properly harnessed, as the region has the capacity to supply fish across the country.
“I am here to explore the possibilities of progress in the Niger Delta region, particularly concerning agriculture.
“As the Managing Director, I can assure you that the Niger Delta can sufficiently feed Nigeria. There is no need to import fish; we can supply fish to the entire country.”
Amgbare added that since taking office as the head of the NDBDA under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the key focus has been on “Collaboration.”
He praised the event organizers for creating a partnership opportunity and thanked the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, for making the program a reality.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Niger Delta, aimed to explore strategies for positively transforming the economic fortunes of the Niger Delta region.
