President Bola Tinubu has given his seal of approval to two separate bills, paving the way for the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to President Tinubu, these specialized institutions will address the educational needs of Nigerians while driving research, innovation, and economic growth.
“These institutions will serve as training grounds for developing agriculture, science, and technology professionals and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy,” he emphasized.
With these new additions, Nigeria’s university count now includes 63 approved federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities, as reported by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
This move is part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to expand educational opportunities in Nigeria.
Earlier, on February 3, 2025, he approved the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET) in Rivers State, as well as the takeover and transformation of a forfeited private university in Southern Kaduna into a federal university.
